Hurricane Irma hit my native South Florida in the fall fo 2017, not long after I moved to Chicago for grad school. It would be the first major hurricane to sweep over home in my lifetime, and it would be one that my parents would have to endure without me (not that I could offer much protection, but). The following text is a response to the novelty of the experience.
