Chalk pastel drawings, 2023-2024

For several years, I have struggled to find the words. In part, I have not wanted to share the words. For now, I’ve decided to go non-verbal with it and turned back to drawing.
I’ve extended my new ways of understanding my body by using my intuition as a guiding principle in the work. In the same way I have learned to listen and trust my body in relation to my healtth, I am trusting my body when I gravitate to particular hues and gestures and an abstract lyricality that I don’t yet understand.
In this world of fixated on productivity, output, fast access to information, and immediacy, I see slowness and wonder as a disruption of the capitalist enterprise and a form of resistance. I am interested in what is beyond our physical reality, in creating moments of reprieve, wonder, and inviting slowness.
